Western Student Connections (WSC) will implement the TPTS in Dubbo and Orange to provide a supportive and case management enviroment for 20 young people across all education sectors ( 10 in Dubbo and 10 in Orange ) to assist their transition through vocational training into higher education at university.
The young people may be those who are in Year 12 in 2012 and either :
- doing a non-ATAR HSC (vocational), or;
- expect to obtain a low ATAR in the HSC which may not meet university entry requirments, and;
- would benefit from following a TAFE training pathway into university
Or, they may have already completed Year 12 in 2010 or 2011 and have not successfully progressed into further vocational training or higher education since leaving school.
The target group will also have expressed an intrest in obtaining a higer education in either:
- Health Care and Social Assistance or ;
- Professional, Scientific and Technical Services
The qualifications for this project will be those at Certificate III or IV level and available at the TAFE NSW Western Institute Dubbo or Orange Campuses for the groups to access in 2013. This is to ensure the participants receive full support and mentoring at the local level.
TAFE enrolment will be at the Certificate III or IV level where possible, however participants may need to achieve core units from Certificate II before enrolling or as a concurrent enrolment in their chosen course.
Participants will participate in work readiness workshops, industry visits, work experience and work placement while completing the vocational training. They will also be supported to find part-time work or casual employment in their chosen industry.
